What are a few things we would find on your desk?My notebook for my current story – I have one for each book and use it to jot down ideas, dialogue, character notes. A can of Diet Coke most likely. And quite often a cat.
What motivates you to write?A deadline! But, seriously, I’ve always been a storyteller and when characters and a plot get into my head I really want to write that story for my readers.
Share something about yourself no one else knows?I did a parachute jump when I was much younger and much braver. Never had the chance to do it again. Now I couldn’t!
What was your favorite scene to write?
It’s difficult to single out a favorite scene as I enjoy writing all of them. I have a soft spot for wedding scenes—they are the payout for all the ups and downs in the journeys of my characters to find true love and I love setting the scene and dressing the bride and her attendants. The Bridesmaid’s Baby Bump is the final story in the mini series Sydney Brides from Harlequin Romance. The three books are about three friends who run a successful party planning business, Party Queens, and the wonderful men who win their hearts. The guys are also friends and the two couples lives become interwoven over the three books—though each is a stand alone story. Gift-Wrapped in Her Wedding Dress was Andie and Dominic’s story;Crown Prince’s Chosen Bride was Gemma and Tristan’s story; now I get the chance to tell Eliza and Jake’s story. Both Eliza and Jake are complex characters, each damaged in their own way. Their attraction to each is intense and initially out of bounds. Secrets and hidden hurts have them guarding their hearts. Then—as the book’s title hints at—an unexpected pregnancy truly tests them. These two really have to work for their happy-ever-after ending! I loved getting them there.
I really enjoyed writing the royal wedding of commoner Gemma and Crown Prince Tristan in Crown Prince’s Chosen Bride (Harlequin Romance March 2016) set in the fictional principality of Montovia. Researching royal weddings I found that cannon fire is part of the tradition in some countries and just had to write that into Gemma and Tristan’s wedding. I also read that lip-readers are sometimes employed to catch every word the royal couples might murmur to each other during and after the ceremony. I wrote that in too. As my new release The Bridesmaid’s Baby Bump (Harlequin Romance July 2016) is the third and final book in the Sydney Brides mini-series, it’s hardly a spoiler to say there’s a wedding in that story too—and I had fun with the surprise that Eliza plans for her special day.

Researching royal weddings? That must've been a chore ;)

DeleteI probably spent way too much time on it, Liz A! Such fun!
DeleteI love a good love story and three love stories are even better.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day. ☺
I loved the three couples in these books, Sandee. I felt sad to say goodbye to them when I typed The End on the third book. The Party Queens are such fun to, well, party with in a romance novel kind of way!
DeleteMy best friend's name is Ashleigh. :)
ReplyDeleteWeddings are fun scenes to write. I've written a few of them.
Weddings are fun to write, aren't they Chrys. I have Pinterest pages full of gorgeous ideas as inspiration!
DeleteEvery Ashleigh I have met has been very nice, so I enjoyed writing "my" Ashleigh.
It's nice to meet Kandy! I had to laugh - deadlines motivate me too. :) Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen! I'm a classic procrastinator and need that deadline to work to.
DeleteWhat a fun little interview!
ReplyDeleteThey were nice questions to answer, Kindlemom!
DeleteThis sounds like a great read.
ReplyDeleteMy mom did her first parachute jump at 60;)
Wow, your mom was brave Sandra! It was a wonderful experience but I left it too late to try it again (bad weather at first) and then I couldn't get the courage up to do it again. I'll never forget the feeling, though.
DeleteHi Kandy
ReplyDeleteWoohoo I did love this story as much as the first 2 in the series :) you always make me smile
Have Fun
Helen
Thank you Helen, I'm so glad you enjoyed all three books! It makes me smile to know I can make you smile.
DeleteMy daughter sent me from Westminster Abby the official Kate and Will wedding book which also showed the wedding dresses of the Queen, sister, and others. So beautiful. I do love the wedding scenes especially royal ones. ;) See you in Adelaide :D
ReplyDeleteOh, how lovely to have that book, Jan. It was such a gorgeous wedding wasn't it?Such a well dressed bridal party. I loved the outfit Kate's mother wore as well as, of course, sister Pippa. I see Pippa is now engaged to a very wealthy man and expect to see another splendid wedding that, while not royal, is connected. How nice that I'll see you in Adelaide for the Romance Writers of Australia conference next month.
ReplyDeleteI accidentally deleted your comment on my newest blog post. That's what I get when I'm in a hurry. :(
