Over to Annie...

Hi, Nas! Thanks so much for inviting me to stop by and talk about my latest release, ‘Imprisoned by a Vow’.

I’ve been distracted lately, finishing off a new book so it’s terrific to come up for air and enjoy this one which I’m yet to see on the shelves. I know it’s out there…I’ll have to visit a store in the next few days.

As you’d guess from the title, there’s a theme in this new book about things that bind us. In Joss and Leila’s case it’s a marriage contract. Not because they care for each other particularly in the beginning, since this doesn’t start as a love match. Legalities bind them. There’s also a sense of responsibility. Both are honourable people and since they’ve agreed to this deal, each believes they should deliver on the contract.

Of course the story is more complex than that. Curiosity and attraction bloom between the pair, and a gradual respect that’s almost unwilling to start with. The trouble for this couple who essentially want to live independent lives is that once respect and liking surface, it’s impossible to ignore the other. That cold-blooded deal just won’t work, especially when desire stirs.

There’s another layer too. Leila had been kept a virtual prisoner by her stepfather, deprived of contact with family or friends for so long that the prospect of marriage to a stranger is welcome as it promises a means of escape. What she wants is personal independence. Imagine her distress when she discovers that, though she’s now free of his control, she carries an unseen and unwanted legacy of that time – a fear of venturing out that stands between her and her dreams. She’s escaped one prison only to discover another one she needs all her determination to conquer.

Joss is a man who for his own reasons wants no emotional ties, yet getting to know Leila and all she battles, he can’t help but be drawn to her. Instead of keeping his distance he finds himself changing his plans to support this remarkable woman.

Soon the ties that bind Joss and Leila have nothing to do with legalities or profits but respect, caring, sexual attraction and, yes, love.

Do you enjoy stories where the hero and heroine are tied in some way to each other by more than passion? Maybe be a marriage of convenience or a promise or even a desire for revenge?

To celebrate the release of ‘Imprisoned by a Vow’ I’ll give away a signed copy of it to someone who leaves a comment here. If you’re drawn as the winner and you already have a copy I’ll send you another of my titles.

  1. Hi Annie, Hi Nas. Annie, i love your summary of Imprisoned by a Vow. If I hadnt read it already I would be out buying it. I love each and every aspect about this book that you've raised. Fab post.

I do because it gets us right into the conflict and gives the characters plenty of opportunity to interact with each other which makes for great reading :D

    1. Hi Laney,

What a lovely wrap for IMPRISONED! I'm mean enough to enjoy having kept you on the edge of your seat. For me they are a couple who really showed how well suited they are after what they went through. I hope you read and enjoy lots more Annie West titles too!

    1. Hi Shelly,

I so agree about needing more than passion (though I have to say I love that strong attraction). If that's all they've got between them it's not a solid basis for a relationship, is it?

  9. Hi Nas! Annie, great piece. Love the title, The Ties that Bind! It's almost as good as Imprisoned by a Vow. As a reader, that draws me in immediately. What's the vow and why are they imprisoned? Personally I love stories about people who fall in love in spite of themselves, and marriage of convenience stories are almost always on that theme. It's such fun watching them fight like demons against the unstoppable power of love. And then when they lose, they have to deal with the consequences. I really enjoyed IMPRISONED BY A VOW - such an emotional rollercoaster of a ride. Bravo, you!

    1. Ah, Anna, you put your finger on it - that bit about them fighting the unstoppable power of love. That's what I enjoy reading and therefore, writing.

I'm glad you found IMPRISONED a rollercoaster of emotion. It sounds like you really entered into the spirit of it.

  10. I love the story lines that have another reason for the hero and heroine to be together, especially one that makes them stay together if they get mad at each other. Makes a much more intriguing plot. They just can't get away from each other until the problem is solved, usually with making up afterwards. Love Annie West's writing. This book will be as good as all her others.

It's terrific to hear you love my writing. Thank you so much!

Yes, please. I enjoy stories where the characters can't get away (or not for long). That's when they have to face their feelings. Always such fun.

  13. I love romance. I love it even more when the hero and heroine have to go through difficulties before finding each other in the end. Maybe they meet up in their younger years, drift apart, go separate ways, live their own lives until one day their world got turned upside down and somehow they cross each other path again. That kind of story always creates butterflies in my tummy.

    1. Ah, it sounds like you enjoy reunion stories, Lid. I've just been working on my first reunion book and I loved that sense of shared history (and hurt) that had to be dealt with.

Don't you love it when a book gives you butterflies?

  15. Intriguing story idea. I've always been interested in prisons of our own making, or rather, mental or emotional prisons as opposed to physical ones.

    Congrats on the release!

    1. Hi S.P. Isn't it fascinating to delve into the various prisons we make for ourselves? There's so much that can restrict our lives. It was a treat to explore that in this story. I'm pleased you found it intriguing.

    1. Hi Theresa. You pinpointed some of the things I most enjoyed, writing this. Perhaps it was the fact that what looked so straightforward in the beginning turned out to be far more complex. That always draws me as a reader, and I'm finding, as a writer.

It was interesting seeing how the dynamic worked between this pair. Leila is so independent and determined not to be needy and Joss is so determined to be a loner, but each needs the other.
