How do you come up with the ideas for new stories?
Imagination has never been my struggle—it’s paying attention to the real world that challenges me. Story ideas seem to find me in the most unexpected ways: a stranger’s expression that lingers in my mind, a song on the radio that sparks an emotion, or even the sight of a beautiful animal on a quiet walk. Inspiration truly is everywhere; sometimes we have to slow down, open our eyes, and let it in.
Does writer's block ever happen to you?
Not often, but yes—it does happen. Recently, we sold our home and moved onto a boat, and between learning all the new systems, planning, and organizing, I was so overwhelmed that, for the first time in my life, the ideas stopped bombarding me. It was a strange silence. But after a couple of weeks, the fog lifted, and now I’m joyfully back at the keyboard, working on an inspirational Christmas romantic suspense.
How do you/would you cope if/when it strikes?
When writer’s block strikes, I’ve learned the best thing I can do is step away for a little while. Sometimes that means taking a walk, going for a swim, or even calling a friend to brainstorm. A change of scenery or a good conversation almost always loosens the knots in my mind and helps the words start flowing again.
Of all the stories you've written, what's your favourite?
Of all the stories I’ve written, Healing the Veteran is my favorite. It was inspired years ago when I worked with veterans at the VA hospital in Miami, an experience that left a deep impression on me. In the book, I brought together a wounded soldier, a dog with a difficult past, and a woman who had battled Guillain-Barré syndrome in a pivotal time of her life—characters who each carry scars but also the courage to heal. My heart is truly poured into this story, and writing it felt like honoring the resilience and hope I witnessed in real life.
Do you live in your' character's world while you write?
Yes! When I’m deep in a story, I definitely live in my characters’ world. It leads to some funny moments in real life—like the time my husband reminded me that mayo belongs in the fridge, not the cabinet, or when I ‘lost’ my car keys only to discover they were in my pocket all along. When my imagination takes over, the real world tends to get a little fuzzy.

Haunted by a disastrous military mission, wounded veteran Ace Gatlin vows to live alone on his farm so he can never fail anyone again. However, this doesn’t discourage his determined neighbor, physiotherapist Jolene Pearl, who shows up at his door with a troubled K-9 desperate for a home.
