Feature on Linda Charles, No Looking Back ~ Bindarra Creek, A Town Reborn

This week our feature is on author Linda Charles. She has a new book,  No Looking Back ~ Bindarra Creek, A Town Reborn.

Linda Charles has been reading romance since high school. Her reading life started very early, but changed direction after she read Gone with the Wind. She was born in Sydney and spent her teenage years in drama classes, and then taught Speech & Drama for many years.  She still loves to go to the theatre, but her plan was always to write. Linda lives in Newcastle and when she's not writing, she can be found walking, browsing the bookshops or planning her next holiday.

  1. Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?
Yes, of course. They could tell a great story and hint at the emotion. The reader will understand the depth of emotion, or lack of, from the clues given from the characters and their actions.

2. What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

I am member of the group writing the Bindarra Creek A Town Reborn series. We are Suzanne Gilchrist, Susanne Bellamy, Annie Seaton, Lauren K McKellar, Simone Angela, Erin Moira O'Hara and Juanita Kees. As a group we keep in constant touch with one another, with any number of questions whether they be writing or career, nobody minds and someone has an answer. I've learnt so much from being part of this group it's been a wonderful experience. We all have to follow a guideline, but we're there to help one another, and it's comforting to know that there is always someone on the other end of the email who will respond.

3. Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
Ideally to have each book stand on its own, but in saying that, as the story is part of a series some of the characters live in the town and are used in each book. They have become reader favourites and even for me, some are my favourite characters and I could not let them go.

4. Tell us a bit about your book...
Hannah and Blake have a past working collaboration which led to disastrous results for one of them. It's a past that can't be brushed aside because the fall-out is physical and can be seen at the heroine's property. The idea came because I divide my time between the Hunter Valley and Sydney where I get the train to work. I love to sit in the last row in the carriage and watch and listen. One day I sat beside two girls who were showing pictures of their dates for that Friday night. They had met them via Tinder and as I listened I got caught up in their excitement, and then they discussed what excuse they would use to walk if they don't get a 'spark'. This is where I got the idea for my story, except Hannah and Blake get the 'spark' at the first meeting, before they discover their past.

Sometimes it’s good to take a risk…

Hannah McKenna lo ves working with horses and is trying hard to keep it altogether after her first horse syndication deal turns sour. Since then she’s been careful and played life straight, and has had enough. She runs into trouble when she meets Blake Hudson – the man who put together the failed deal – who rescues her when she takes a nasty tumble from a horse.

Blake Hudson  is known as Mr Nice Guy, but there are dark shadows in his past. He’s the dealmaker, the perfect go-between who puts together horse syndications and once the deal is done he moves on. Problem is, Hannah is the exception and he can’t keep away, but fears she will walk if she knew the truth about his past.

He hadn’t bargained on dealing with a mischievous third party called attraction.

When she discovers the truth, both realise they could lose everything, including each other.

Thank you. I’ve been fortunate to be part of the https://bindarracreekromance.com/a-town-reborn/ and have just released the third book in the series – No Looking Back. It can be found on Amazon -https://amzn.to/303nrQW

She runs into trouble when she meets Blake Hudson – the man who put together the failed deal – who rescues her when she takes a nasty tumble from a horse. She likes him, simple as, and finds plenty of reasons to make him want to stay.

Blake Hudson feels like an imposter because he knows loved ones would walk if they knew the truth. He’s the dealmaker, the perfect go-between who puts together horse syndications and once the deal is done he moves on. His life takes a turn when he meets Hannah, the woman at the centre of his worst deal. Problem is he can’t keep away, but fears she will walk if she knew the truth about his past.

  4. Whether you ladies came up with the brilliant idea of working in cahoots to write a series of standalone books with some common characters sharing a common location, or if it's an idea sprung from the mind of your agent/publisher, it's a terrific one! I wish y'all much success with it.

    1. Hi Susan, Thank you! for such lovely words - I will pass them onto the group. This is a self-publishing enterprise for us and it's been a lot of fun to write, and friendships have deepened.
