Feature on Pippa Roscoe & A Ring to Take His Revenge

This week our Feature on Author is on: Pippa Roscoe and her debut book, A Ring to Take His Revenge.

Mills & Boon author Pippa Roscoe lives in Norfolk near her family and makes daily promises that this will be the day she will leave the computer and take a long walk in the countryside. She can’t remember a time when she wasn’t dreaming of gorgeous alpha males and misunderstood heroines. Totally her mother’s fault of course—she gave Pippa her first romance to read at the age of seven! She is inconceivably happy that she gets to share those daydreams with her readers.

  1. Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?
That depends on how you class 'writer'. Personally I don't think that you have to be published to be a writer. Anyone who dedicates their time to creating stories and characters and engages in the act of writing is a writer. So the simple answer is yes, absolutely they can. The more complex answer is, if that person doesn't feel emotions strongly themselves, but is able to translate emotions on to a page for a character in a way that the reader can feel, then that will help them become a good/great writer. There is always a struggle towards authenticity in writing, but it's the character's authenticity that we strive for - not necessarily our own. Our own experiences can inform that authenticity, but it's not the only way to develop a character or story. So then no, you don't have to feel emotions strongly in order to create those emotions on the page, but it certainly does help the reader invest and enjoy your stories.

What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

Some author friends I found before I started my own path to publication and others after. I think if I actually started naming them you'd find the whole Harlequin Presents author base on that list! But specifically, I'd say - in no special order - Sharon Kendrick, Rachael Thomas, Jennifer Hayward, and Michelle Smart. They're an incredible group of authors who generously give of their time and their advice and support both in the good times and the trickier times. As to who has helped me become a better writer? That's easy. Every single author I've ever worked with and every single author I've ever read. Author's I worked with showed me how to graciously explore revisions, how far an author can push themselves and what they can achieve with their persistence, work ethic and talent. The author's I've read inspire me with their creativity, their passion and their power, whether it's romance, crime fiction, fantasy...  The writing community is an incredible source of positive support and constant encouragement and I count myself lucky to be part of it each and every day.

Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

My debut book, Conquering His Virgin Queen, stood on it's own, but I then began The Winners' Circle trilogy. A Ring to Take His Revenge is the first book in that trilogy. Since then, I've tried to work on stand alone stories, but I just keep finding characters hidden in the pages of my stories that intrigue me and are demanding I tell their stories too! So it's certainly not intentional, but the connections do just keep cropping up. I always loved reading books by authors that reference previous characters - it's a fun way to dip back into their lives after the happy-ever-after, to check in on a beloved character and make sure they're still doing okay and I like to do that too.

Tell us a bit about your book...

Secretary Emma Guilham knows how demanding her boss can be, but even she is surprised when he suggests that she pose as his fake fiance for a business deal. Emma knows only too well how short life can be, and the opportunities he offers are too much to resist. But soon she starts to see behind the business facade Antonio Arcuri presents to the world and it's not long before the line between business and pleasure starts to blur. But can this enigmatic, powerful and proud billionaire see her as anything other than a pawn in his path to revenge? And dare she reach for the one thing that she wants so much? Find out, in A Ring to Take His Revenge!

A Ring to Take His Revenge (The Winners' Circle)

He’ll do anything to settle the score…

…even fake an engagement!

To secure his revenge against his cruel father, billionaire Antonio Arcuri needs a fake fiancĂ©e—fast! He demands his shy PA, Emma Guilham, wear his diamond. In return, he’ll help fulfill her dreams—starting with a jet-set trip to Buenos Aires! It’s a simple charade, until the burning tension between them erupts into irresistible desire. Now Antonio must decide between vengeance and Emma…

A powerfully intense revenge romance!.

  1. I wonder if there are writers who are more able to express their emotions on the page rather than confronting them in the real world.

    1. I'm glad you agree Elizabeth! To me, publication is something that happens after the book has been written - so naturally you are already a writer before publication! Best wishes!
