1. If you have a pen name, can you explain how you came up with it?
No pen name.  Born with it. It's my maiden name.  Suzanne Brockman recommend that route to me.  Keeps it simple and legal.

2. What are a few things we would find in or on your desk?
Cats.  Several.  Various, sizes, shapes, colors and ages.  Connor, (the kitten, seven months old) she  sleeps to my left on the printer where I can pet her while I work.  Who is to the right is generally up for grabs.  Gomez is there right now.  Satan, yes that is her name and it fits, she sleeps under the desk on my feet.  All the way on my feet.  And with her name, you don't wiggle your toes. Connor's brother, Murphy, he likes it under the chair and Hudson, he is real sick so he gets to sleep where he wants.

3. What motivates you to write?
I am a grown up with imaginary friends.  These friends like to talk. A lot.  Like all the time.  So, I take notes, right down their stories and see what happens. These last five, my Dead Men, they became my best friends ever. They also taught me to swear like a sailor.

4. Share something about yourself no one else knows?
When I was eighteen and in college, I was in class one day and the roll sheet came to me to sign.  I accidentally -- seriously--wrote the last name of the cute guy sitting next to me. I erased it and covered my crime. That guy is at this moment installing fans in the house for summer.  And he learned to like cats.

5 Tell us about your book....
DEAD MEN PLAY THE GAME is the first is a series of four books following the lives of five best friends who call themselves family. The fact they are vampires does not define who they are or what they do, but rather the humanity each of them learned from the other is the driving force behind them.
DEAD MEN PLAY THE GAME is Ian Stuart's story. For a hundred years, Ian Stuart has fought the monster controlling his life. Living as a human among humans, he wants to fill the void that has followed him from one empty, lonely relationship to another other. Ashley Barrow is working the worst murder case in Davenport, Oregon's history. She needs a drink to forget the detailed images in her mind. But an enemy from Ian's past has his own agenda about their future. His sadistic revenge changes Ashley forever, leaving Ian and his long time friends – Travis, Jason, Quinn and Evan -- desperate to ease her into her new life and find a way to defeat their enemy.

    2. I live at 7000 feet so we do catch a break, though no one has a/c. Lots of fans. Lots and lots of fans. Now that the book is out though, thought I would take up walking again ... in the dusk when it's nice. Thanks for stopping by.

  5. It's a series so it needed a first half that would carry until the other three, then each book has it's own that describes that story. Took eight months to think and overanalyze then two seconds of "Well, duh ..." that's the name. Glad you would visit.,

  9. My vampires are very different. Over of the course of thirty years or so, they joined the "group" one by one, choosing a human life and then finding the way. DEAD MEN PLAY THE GAME is a book about five best friends who face villains and find love. The fact they are vampires is background to their relationships.

I like vampire stories that show their humanity, rather than them being cold and heartless. It's great to meet Jacqui.

    1. You will like my guys. Their humanity is what defines them. Ash describes them as being the most caring, most human people she ever met.
