Tell us about yourself.

I worked in the advertising industry, then stayed home with my three children for some years.  I play piano, and a few years ago started taking lessons again to push me past playing the same classical music I played in my teens.  I enjoy gardening, though the past couple of years it’s been a bit neglected - too much to do!  I love to cook and my family likes to eat, so that works well!  I think cooking can be very creative, and go through times when I enjoy reading cookbooks and experimenting, and other times don’t have the energy and just serve up my family’s favorites.  One of the things I’m not very good at is keeping my house neat and tidy, and after twenty-four years of marriage, have accepted I never will be :-)

What inspired you to be a writer?

I’ve always been an avid reader who loves the written word.  I studied journalism in college but it never occurred to me to write fiction, though I have no idea why!  I literally had a strange epiphany - I hadn’t read a novel for a few years, as when my children were small, there were constant interruptions.  We were heading to a beach vacation when they were a bit older, and I grabbed a book I knew I’d enjoyed years earlier, but couldn’t remember.  The characters got stuck in my head, and I found myself thinking about it all the time, creating new scenes for them.  This lasted a couple weeks, and though I thought it was very bizarre, I finally realized I needed to write a story with my own characters, and that’s how it started!

How did you choose your genre?

I loved Harlequin romances when I was a teenager, and read lots of romance as a young adult, adoring gothic romances and historicals then, later, contemporary romance.  I did read other genres, but romance was always my favorite.  So when I decided to write fiction, there was no question that’s what I wanted to focus on.

What made you tell this story and why did you write this book?

I was in San Diego visiting my uncle and inspired by the beauty and romance of that area, deciding to set my story there.  I’ve always enjoyed the ‘friends to lovers’ trope, and this is a twist on that!

How did you come up with the title?

One secret in the publishing world is that authors frequently don’t come up with their own title. FLIRTING WITH DR. OFF LIMITS was my editor’s idea.

What’s your favorite scene?

There’s a cute scene where the hero and heroine are celebrating her first day as an intern. As she clinks her wine glass to his, she accidentally spills wine all over him which leads to all sorts of fun.  There’s a short excerpt of this scene in the front of the book.

Tell us about your book...

Katy has just graduated from medical school, and is interning at the same hospital her brother works   It’s a bit the ‘little sister, brother’s friend trope’ but I wanted to ratchet that up by having Alec also be her teacher.  I enjoyed helping Katy find her confidence as a doctor in the story, and also enjoyed creating the push/pull between them until they couldn’t resist each other any longer!
as a surgeon, as does the hero, Alec.

  2. Cooking is creative. Any time you make something, it's creative. Even a family favorite.

    1. Ha! It's so funny you say that, because a few friends were joking about exactly that at a booksigning this weekend. My February release (The Last Temptation of Dr. Dalton) had a woman's face on the cover, too, and somehow the head tilt I've got going on in this author photo is similar to both of those cover shots. Not that they're younger than I am, or anything ;-)

  11. I have never been to San Diego- but from pictures I can see how it could inspire writing. :) I have always wanted to play the piano, so I think it is cool that Robin continued playing as an adult and even decided to take more lessons.

Wishing her the best of luck!

    1. Thanks, Carrie! A friend of mine told me she thought it summed up the story in five words, and I guess that's true!
