I'm happy to introduce Christina De Mello on the publication of her book, a collection of short stories, in the paranormal genre. Although Christina prefers to call it supernatural fiction, as she doesn't tend to employ the vampires and werewolves so beloved of today's paranormal readers. Christina is fascinated by what is beyond the surface of what we see. Her stories are very much concerned with how our material world often tends to deny the presence of the supernatural, yet the supernaturalworld is ever present and sometimes manifests itself in surprising ways. Christina is Indian born and bred, with Portuguese and British antecedents and was born in the historic city of Lucknow in north India. She has spent quite a few years in the equally historical city of Kolkata too. When she retires from the workforce, she plans to move to Goa with her grown up son, where she hopes to be able to devote more time to her writing.

It must be very exciting to see your name on the cover of a book. How does it feel?
Exactly that-exciting! Proud too of my achievement.
How long did it take you to write this stories?
It took me about three years to write them. Then I went over them time and again-editing and changing till I was fully satisfied.
You were born in Uttar Pradesh in India, but this collection of stories has an international feel. Have your travels influenced your writing?
To some extent as a number of the stories are set in countries that I have visited but at the same time I am an Anglo-Indian with a British and Portuguese heritage.
How did you develop an interest in the supernatural?
I've always liked a good thriller or horror story. Then one day I found an old book on the supernatural in one of the book shops on the streets of Calcutta. It had all the famous old authors, Poe, Bram Stoker, etc. and I was hooked.
What's next for you? Any more books on the way?
Yes. I've started working on the next one but there's still a long way to go.
