Spotlight on Jennifer St George

Who is Jennifer St George?

I’m a romance author whose sexy stories feature courageous, career-minded heroines and strong heroes in glamorous international settings. I’ve had four books published by Penguin’s Destiny Romance. I’m pretty excited as The Love Deception has just been nominated in the Favourite Short Category Romance category of the Australia Romance Reader Association annual awards that recognize excellence in romance writing.

Before writing, I spent the first 20 years of my career in corporate marketing and management consulting roles.  Some career highlights include launching Guinness beer in Russia; reaching 40 million people through a publicity campaign that ‘gave away’ a pub in Ireland and launching the Ford Ka brand in Australia.

What inspired you to be a writer?

My sister inspired me to be a writer. She loved romance novels and wrote her first Mills & Boon as a teenager. She read lots of books and only passed on the really fabulous ones, so I had my own reading editor. It was her love of reading and writing that led me to consider writing romance.

The opportunity came to really give writing a red hot go when we moved to a small Australian seaside town. I had to think of a new career as there wasn’t much call for management consultants so I began writing four years and haven’t stopped.

How did you choose your genre?

I love reading sexy category romance, so it seemed natural for me to write in that genre. I’m attracted to the genre as category books are usually fast, fun reads with snappy dialogue and great sensuality. I like setting my stories in luxurious international locations as these are the ones I like to travel to myself. So far I’ve written about Venice, Barbados, London and my latest offering incorporates a visit to Brunei.

What made you tell this story and why did you write this book?

The inspiration for The Billionaire’s Pursuit of Love came when I attended a seminar held by a charity dedicated to saving the world’s orangutans. The wildlife workers lived in very basic conditions, working in the mud, rain and heat to ‘mother’ the baby orangutans until they could look after themselves – a little like human babies.

I then read a newspaper article about a man who’d designed one of the world’s most successful computer games and was worth millions. He lived a classic urban, jet set lifestyle.

What would happen if two people, from such incredibly different worlds, were brought together through a twist of fate that just wouldn’t let them go? This is what happens to wildlife warrior, Sarah Walker and global technology guru, Blake Huntington-Fiennes.

How did you come up with the title?

It’s funny as all my other titles – The Convenient Bride, Seducing the Secret Heiress, The Love Deception and Sweet Seduction all came to me really easily.  The Billionaire’s Pursuit of Love took a lot more work. I tried many, many names before settling on this one. I don’t know why the title of this story was so hard to pin down.

What is your favourite scene?

I love the scene at the beginning of the book set in the restaurant In London’s Dorchester Hotel.  Blake has engineered it so Sarah has to have dinner with him to discover why he couldn’t find her when he went looking for her all those years ago. He is so naughty at dinner. He bans Sarah from talking about her beloved Sanctuary. He threatens to fine her one thousand dollars each time she mentions it. She doesn’t believe he’ll do it. Let’s just say Blake is a man of his word!

The premise for The Billionaire’s Pursuit of Love

When Sarah Walker's beloved wildlife sanctuary is threatened with closure, she heads for London and goes straight to the top to find out why. But the man responsible is the one man she's never forgotten, and the only person who can destroy all her happiness.

Billionaire CEO Blake Huntington-Fiennes can't believe that the girl he's spent years searching for has just marched into his boardroom. And this time, he's willing to resort to any means necessary to keep her. But Sarah has a secret she must protect at all costs or risk losing something even more precious than the sanctuary…

  3. Sounds like a red hot read! I love your fining concept. I've frequently had conversations where I'd have loved to impose a penalty every time a certain subject was raised (every conversation involving cricket)! Can't wait to read about Blake and Sarah.
