Over to Helen now...

All I want for Christmas

Christmas is around the corner and once again it’s time to start thinking about dusting off the tree and starting making a list of what presents I’m going to buy. Actually, I’m not really someone who ‘loves’ gifts. I mean, I enjoy giving gifts, and would much rather give them than receive them. And when it comes to thinking about what I want to go under the tree, I am usually stumped each year.  I have to write my husband a list every November and this year I have put down the usual favourite perfume, Clarins skin care, books and gift vouchers etc.

US Edition
In my November release, Marriage Under The Mistletoe, which is set around Christmas time, the hero gives the heroine a very special gift that has a very strong meaning to her. And as I was writing my list I added a few things that would have some significant meaning to my own life as well. I also started thinking about some of the more unusual gifts I’ve been given over the years. I really enjoy getting quirky things and gifts that can make me smile. These are the top four favourite all time strangest/quirkiest gifts that I have been given.

1/ A Klingon phrase book (from a nephew who knew I loved Star Trek Next Gen)

2/ A hand bag made out of bottle tops

3/ A goat

4/ A family of zombie like ceramic squirrels each holding a little sign that said things like “Who stole my nuts”

Do you have a favorite quirky gift someone had given you? I have a copy of my November Harlequin Special Edition, Marriage Under Mistletoe to give away to one commenter.

Marriage Under The Mistletoe
Back Blurb

Strong. Sensible. Dependable. That was Evie Dunn's type. Certainly not young, fearless gorgeous firefighter Scott Jones. She knew the wisest course was to keep her distance, but she couldn't resist the allure of a holiday fling. Now the widowed single mom found herself with an unexpected post-Christmas gift—she was having Scott's baby!

Scott came to Crystal Point to see his sister tie the knot, not fall for the alluring owner of the town's oceanfront B and B. He knew he was all wrong for Evie, but he would do anything to win her heart and build the family he'd always wanted. All he had to do was persuade Evie to take the biggest risk of her life…on love.

  1. The most unusual Christmas gift I ever receive and which I still have twenty years later is a scissors. I used to go to a friend to get my hair trimmed as she was unemployed but had some training in hairdressing. When my sister found out what I was doing to keep my hair cut, she gave me the scissors as a gift explaining that it is really important to have a scissors which is of good quality. She advised me to bring my own scissors when I was getting my hair trimmed. I've had that scissors for twenty years and it has been with me through so many situations. That's one gift that certainly passed the test of time.

For the height of quirkiness, the goat wins. Hands down. It doesn't get any quirkier... *chuckles*
